Course Description
The curriculum of every advisory class is a values-based, age-appropriate curriculum dealing with decision making, the development of ethics and character, time management, notebook organization, career exploration, college research, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, developing leadership, and contributing back to the community through service learning.This year’s advisory curriculum is designed around preparation for middle school both academically and socially. The units during the year will focus on study skills, social responsibility, cultural awareness, test preparation, and public speaking. The focus on these topics will help students develop the skills to work cooperatively with one another and create a strong community of successful learners. In addition, it will assist students in achieving personal and academic success.
Supplies
Each day student must bring the following materials to class:
Grades
A student’s grade should be a reflection of both a student’s practice and final product. The classroom should also be a community of learners and as such students have a responsibility to contribute respectfully to class discussion and group work. The grading percentages are the following:
90%-100% = A
80% - 89% = B
70% - 79% = C
60% - 69% = D
59% - lower = F
A student’s grade will be based on the following categories:
· Organization/Backpack Checks (Every Monday)
· KBAR Book/Planner Checks (Every class)
· KBACs
· Counseling Curriculum
· Materials Checks
· 8th Grade Exhibition

Consequences in the classroom:
Positive Consequences
Praise from teacher/peers
Positive learning environment
Extra class privileges
Positive phone calls home
Negative Consequences
1st Offense: Warning
2nd Offense: Loss of class privileges, Disruption Folder, and/or Phone call home
3rd Offense: Phone call home and referral
SEA Attendance
You are always welcomed to stay for SEA. However, as stated in your student handbook, you must attend Saturday Enrichment Academy if you earn a 2.50 GPA or below on any progress report or semester report card. Remember, you can get on the SEA list at any time, but you have only two opportunities per school year to get off the SEA list: at the end of each semester. Keep your grades up!
Cell Phone Policy
If you are found using your cell phone during a “no cell phone” time, your phone will be confiscated and given to Mr. Selleck and your parents will have to come collect your phone from the front office.

- 2 pencils (with lead if needed)
- 2 blue or black ink pens
- Textbooks for Tutoring
- Tutoring materials
- KBAR book at the student’s reading level
- Scissors
- Student Planner
- Glue
- Markers or Colored Pencils
- A good attitude!

- Understand the importance of your decision to attend The Preuss School UCSD.
- Be respectful of yourself and others at all times.
- Maintain a quiet working environment.
- Listen while others are speaking.
- No eating, drinking (other than water), or sleeping.
- Raise your hand to speak in class.
- Refrain from inappropriate behavior as listed in the student planner.
- Be ready and prepared to start class on time.
